Unlike fixed skimmers, it continuously travels across the water surface using a moving bridge or chain system, ensuring uniform oil removal from wide areas.

- The travelling skimmer moves back and forth across the water surface.
- Floating oil, grease, or scum is collected using scrapers or belts.
- The collected oil is pushed into a collection trough and discharged into a storage tank.
