Rotating Biological Reactor

Rotating Biological Reactor

A Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) is an advanced fixed-film wastewater treatment technology widely used in sewage and industrial effluent treatment. The process is based on attached-growth microorganisms, where a series of closely spaced discs rotate partially submerged in wastewater. As the discs rotate, microorganisms grow on their surface, effectively breaking down organic matter and reducing pollutants.

Parameter RBC Technology Conventional ASP
Energy Requirement Very low, only for disc rotation motor High, due to blowers & aeration
Operation Simple, less manpower required Skilled operation needed
Space Requirement Compact modular design Large aeration tanks required
Sludge Production Low excess sludge generation Higher sludge volume
Maintenance Minimal, fewer mechanical parts Frequent monitoring & control needed
